Border Patrol agent and union vice president Art del Cueto.

Much of the public discussion of our southern border today is one-sided. It is most often created by those with the most power and the loudest bullhorn; those in search of power, authority and money. So, it should come as no surprise to you that much of what we have been told about the border and of those who come to it are either not true or are highly exaggerated. It is after all the result of nearly a hundred years worth of the Border Patrol’s racist rhetoric and racist politicians creating ever more unfair and biased laws and policies…

It’s no surprise that there are claims of a new crisis on our border. A new year, a new administration, new policies in regard to who can cross and how they are processed will always bring a crisis claim from one side or the other. Depending on which side you are on politically often determines how you feel about migrants coming to our country. Conservatives usually feel we allow too many migrants to enter; liberals believe we should allow more.

That is a generalized statement of course. There are all sorts of nuances about our immigration policies and what we…

For those who do not know who I am: I am a former Senior Patrol agent and a San Diego Sector Headquarters Intelligence agent for the U.S. Border Patrol. I was stationed in the treacherous mountains east of San Diego from 1995 until I resigned in protest in 2001. I whistle blew when I discovered that the former boss of my station in Campo, Patrol Agent In Charge Charles Dierkop was responsible for the smuggling of tons of narcotics into the San Diego area. I was offered a promotion to shut my mouth, and when I refused, I was placed…

When the sun came up this morning on day two of the new Biden/Harris administration, I scrolled through the list of new CBP (Customs and Border Protection) and Border Patrol articles published during the night as I do every single day no matter who is in charge. Usually, this list is filled with articles about drug busts, apprehensions of migrants or agent involved shootings. Today was a bit different because mixed in with these articles were a handful from small media outlets that appear to be some sort of media push by the agencies.

There’s this one from a pro-Border…

I wish I could have said I was surprised, but I wasn’t. When ProPublica released their infamous article about Border Patrol’s private Facebook group in July of 2019, my phone lit up with messages from reporters for weeks. Yes, this was entirely consistent with what I knew about the Patrol. Yes, I expected high-ranking agents to be involved. No, I wasn’t surprised that former Chief Carla Provost was a member or that the current Chief, Rodney Scott was as well. …

Why Biden Cannot Trust Federal Law Enforcement Leaders

There are times in our lives that we will never forget. Memories that are more than just images in our minds. I’m speaking of those that bring back smells, sounds, feelings and deep emotional connections. Sometimes those memories are tied to national moments and they become collective memories like the shooting of JFK or 9/11. These shared catastrophic moments often result in calls of national unity from our leaders as they should.

Personally, I am deeply traumatized by what I witnessed this week. And though we all witnessed the Trump Insurrection attack…

There are certain rights we must willingly give up if we wish to be hired on for certain jobs. It is not uncommon for employers of various industries to request a criminal background check before we are hired. Few would argue that this is unreasonable for a company. Banks should not be hiring bank robbers and real estate companies would be clearly negligent if they failed to do their due diligence and hired someone convicted of fraud. This is an inconvenience that most of us have come to accept as part of living in a civilized society.

The same is…

By now, most Americans have learned how brutal and inhumane our immigration system is. From metal walls designed to burn anyone who touches them, to children being taken from their parents simply for exercising their right to ask for asylum, our immigration policies and the agencies who enforce them are not only violating human rights, they are the embodiment of the evils that spring forth from hateful human minds. Worse yet are the many crimes that we have yet to learn.

There are thousands of those.

I say crimes because I believe it is a crime to force people to…

If you have spent any time reading my past posts, you know that I am dedicated to reforming our immigration system and that I have lived and survived the brutal rape culture of the U.S. Border Patrol. Often female officers write to me privately to confess the sexual harassment and assaults they have had to endure just to get a job. …

Now is the time for Democrats to stop ceding the immigration debate to Republicans and instead lead it. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), CBP (Customs and Border Protection) and the Border Patrol have all shown there is no bottom to their depravity when it comes to migrants, especially migrants of color. Four years of a self-admitted, braggadocios white nationalist agenda has once again proven this to those of us who’ve been willing to ignore or conveniently forget our racist history.

The time is now.

Our American immigration history is rife with nationalist agendas and political rigging of the system to…
